What Should a Manufacturing Brief Include?

A useful first brief defines the product without forcing you to publish confidential design files.

Start with the Product

State the category, intended wearer, target market and the style reference. Identify what is fixed and what is open to development. Reference photographs do not replace technical specifications.

Define the Technical Inputs

For a detailed review, prepare the base size, measurement chart and points of measure; construction details; material and trim requirements; colour or wash references; artwork placement; and packing expectations. Keep each version identifiable.

Separate the First Inquiry from the Tech Pack

The initial form needs an overview, estimated quantity and timing. Indicate whether a tech pack is ready and whether confidentiality terms are required. Share the full file only after the receiving channel is confirmed.

Make Sample Feedback Actionable

Refer to the sample version, identify the affected area and separate measurements from visual observations. Confirm which changes are approved before requesting the next round.

Scope & Sources

This is a practical KG project-preparation checklist, not a universal technical standard. Buyer specifications and the agreed project scope take precedence.
